Student Human Resource Management & Psychology

In what ways are you involved in sustainability? How do you contribute to making Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences more sustainable?

In my role as a student assistant at Green Office HR – Sustainable Together, I focus on the human side of sustainability. To me, sustainability is not just about environmental measures, but primarily about behaviour, awareness, and cultural change within RUAS. Drawing on my background in HRM, I specifically consider questions such as: What motivates people? What holds them back? And how can we encourage sustainable choices within an organisation?

What are you proud of, and why?

I am proud of my contribution to the gap analysis conducted at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, in which I helped analyse the double materiality analysis and assisted with a CO₂ measurement. This work transformed sustainability from an abstract concept into something concrete and measurable for me. The analyses provided insight into the most important sustainability themes at RUAS, showing how these themes are perceived by teachers, staff, and students.

What would you like to contribute in the near future? What will make you happy/satisfied?

In the near future, I hope to contribute to initiatives that promote collaboration and understanding. For example, I would like to see more interactive sessions for students and staff, as well as projects that link sustainability to personal values, professional development, and personal well-being. I will be satisfied when I see that sustainability at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences is not just a requirement, but something people feel personally invested in and can contribute to.

What would you like to share with people, fellow students and colleagues regarding sustainability?

I want to convey that sustainability does not have to be perfect to be valuable. Small steps, honest conversations and raising awareness are just as important as having big ambitions. Caring for the planet starts with caring for yourself and others. By making time to reflect, connect and collaborate, we can build a sustainable future together that is not only greener, but also more humane.
