Lean Construction Ballast Nedam

Ballast Nedam West

Co-operation with students from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Helsinki, to advise on the implementation of Lean Management.

Question asked

This project was a co-operation between students from the Metropolia University Of Applied Sciences Helsinki, the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Ballast Nedam. The goal for us as students was to give advice to Ballast Nedam on their implementation of Lean Management in the building system.

Approach

For this assignment we focused on two projects of Ballast Nedam to describe and analyze the current situation as far as lean construction is concerned. We gave advice to Ballast Nedam on how to create the preconditions which are necessary for lean construction. In addition, we compared the situation on building sites in Finland to the situation in The Netherlands: this international benchmarking assignment focused on the implementation of lean principles. When the implementations were characterized and the problem points found we were able to recommend possible improvements.

Result

Our final product was a report with our study and recommendations in it. We presented the outcome of our project to a group consisting of the staff from Ballast Nedam and teachers and managers from school. The report and presentation were well received, and all people involved can look back at a successful project.
