    Programme structure

A view of the study programme
    Your educational experience

We think it’s important for you to enjoy a study programme that runs smoothly and leads to your success. To encourage this, our study programmes are taught in the form of clearly defined, practice-oriented blocks focused on a single theme that include a limited number of subjects per block. You will also have a coach who will personally assist you in areas such as study skills, career planning and personal development. Other important elements in our study programmes are applied research and critical self-reflection. And, especially during your last two years, you will have plenty of opportunities to structure your own personalised study programme.

    First year

During your first year you will get a clear overview of the study programme, its goals, and the professional field. Case analysis, group discussions and professional literature provide the basis for applying the principles learned. You learn to think like a general manager rather than a marketer, accountant or finance expert. Next to Business Communication (English), you also study a second language: Spanish, French, Dutch or German. The second language is not a feature in the fast track programme.

    After the first year

The knowledge and skills you obtain during the first year will be the foundation for the main phase of the programme. The second year combines in-depth international business subjects with electives which enable you to broaden your horizon. You will learn to think strategically and receive training in communication, negotiation and leadership skills. The third year starts with a placement period at a company or organisation in the Netherlands or abroad, after which you will follow the regular IBMS programme. The fourth year comprises a one-semester study-abroad period or a specialisation programme, and a graduation placement researching a business-related problem for a company.

    Electives and support

    Electives

During your studies, you can choose several elective subjects. This gives you the opportunity to look beyond the boundaries of your own study programme and to give substance to your specific learning needs. Part of the programme is a placement in a company of your choice. Through a specialisation in the main phase of studies, you choose a specific profile that allows you to differentiate yourself. With your graduation assignment you give a personal touch to your education.

    Support

Every student is unique and has his own ideas about what he wants to achieve during his studies. We will support you by making you aware of your abilities, opportunities and challenges. Sometimes, during or even before the start of your study programme it becomes clear that you are struggling with a particular subject. It will be useful to brush up your knowledge in that area. As a student you will be assigned a coach (a lecturer) who will guide you and who will monitor your progress. It is also possible to ask for a peer coach, a senior student who trains younger year students.

    Studying with a disability

If you have a disability and therefore require some extra facilities, we offer various options (information in Dutch).

    Placement

Many students choose to gain working experience abroad in a placement. However, it is also possible to take a placement in the Netherlands, preferably in an international company.

Watch the video below to find out how Niels de Griff experienced his third-year placement at the European Forest Institute in Malaysia.

    Minors

In the last phase of your studies, you can choose a minor, to specialize in a field of your choice.
