Kenniscentrum Creating 010

21st Century Visual Culture

21st Century Visual Culture

As of 2016, 21st Century Visual Culture supersedes Creating 010’s formerly separated research programs on new media and on cultural diversity. Globalization processes, aesthetic, cultural, technological and social shifts put into question the traditional Western art and design system as it has been established in the 19th and 20th century. The creative field currently emerging out of art and design looks radically different from what is told in art history books. In our line of research, we investigate the accelerating transformation of creative disciplines towards a larger field of visual culture. We do not know yet what this field will eventually look like; through our research we aim to be able to anticipate what the future of this field will look like.

Creative Economy

Creative Economy

The concept of creative industries has been coined in the nineties of the previous century as encompassing activities both in the corporate domain of new and traditional media, entertainment, design and architecture as well as those pre-dominantly depending on public subsidies like performing and visual arts as well as public broadcasting. Some have used cultural and creative industries to signify these activities, preferring a distinction between branches that provide creative inputs into other sectors in the economy, mainly design-based activities (creative industries), and those that provide cultural outputs for audiences, as for instance performing arts, media and entertainment (cultural industries). In the Netherlands the multifaceted nature of the creative industries was countered by introducing a three-fold concept: (1) media- and entertainment industries, (2) creative business services and (3) arts and heritage.

Smart and Inclusive Society

Smart and Inclusive Society
