The Social Practices program runs since 2013 at the Willem de Kooning Academy and it has positioned itself through the radical reinvention of the curriculum as the manifestation of students and alumni in practice and society. An example is 2016 alumna Ermi van Oers, who recently was selected as a ‘toekomstbouwer’ by VPRO.

Having completed the first phase, we are now recruiting a new Program Leader who can guide the Social Practices in its second phase. Key focus is the position paper which states: 'Social Design as a political act’. Reframing, Embedded research, Systemic analysis, Making as enquiry. In this context alternative (economic) models and conditions for impact (real change) are the key focus.

You will head up the team of teaching staff, holding ultimate responsibility for the quality of the education within Social Practices. You will be continuously developing the pedagogical excellence within the mission of the Willem de Kooning academy, together with the teaching team. You will be constructing the academy’s profile, in collaborative processes, with course leaders, coordinators, supportive teams and the leadership.

The program leader has a strong focus on effective and efficient organization, for students projects (all education is organized through integrated project based learning), presentation activities, field trips, collaborations or external projects.

Next to the practice you play a key role within the larger organization through an active participation in the Bachelor Course Leader platforms and in the collaborative quality enhancement activities, together with dedicated supportive teams.

As a program leader you focus on sharing and presenting the processes and results of students and teachers. You are a capable presenter and moderator, who enjoys to share findings and results publicly, on our own podium beyond social and, as well as at the annual Graduation Show and all external events the Willem de Kooning Academy participates in).
