Master in Finance and Accounting

Éénjarige opleiding in het Engels

The curriculum of the Master programme consists of core modules, specialisation modules and elective modules. This design was adopted to create a combination of knowledge, skills and competencies.

The goal of any enterprise is to create value for its stakeholders. In times of increasing risks it is crucial to take the right investment decisions, financial decisions and dividend decisions. A financial manager has to know how risk is defined, what the links are between risk and the opportunity costs of capital, and he/she can cope with risk in practical situations. In order to be accepted, projects need to show a positive net present value, and thus increase the firm's value. Another question is how dividend policy affects a firm's value. Dividend decisions are often mixed up with investment and financing decisions, but dividend policy should be isolated from other problems of financial management. The choice of capital structure is fundamentally a marketing problem: the firm can issue dozens of securities in countless combinations, but it attempts to find the particular combination of equity and debt that maximises the firm's overall value. The financial courses provides insight, knowledge and analytical skills related to how a corporation’s senior executives design and implement the ongoing management systems that are used to plan and control the firm’s performance.

This Master programme is offered by Rotterdam Business School (RBS).
